Take Advantage of Unique Opportunity to Own Superior Hereford Genetics, Support Foundation

John and Mona Loewen, Waukomis, Okla., have donated a promising young sire, Loewen Foundation 34X, to the Hereford Research Foundation (HRF), and ABS Global is graciously contributing to this project that will help fund Hereford research.

A core objective in the 2010 American Hereford Association (AHA) Strategic Plan was to continue to grow research and the National Reference Sire Program. HRF was established to support these goals.

“The AHA would like to thank both John and Mona Loewen and ABS for this generous donation,” says Jack Ward, AHA chief operating officer and director of breed improvement. “The purchase price of this bull will be totally donated to the HRF and residual income will come from the semen sales at ABS.”

Now the opportunity is in the hands of progressive cattlemen. “Foundation” will be offered to the public in the following way:

- 20 shares at $2,500/share, buyers will receive 100 straws of semen over the next three years. (Semen shipment at buyer’s expense).

- All shareholders will be entered into a drawing for three frozen embryos from the dam of “Foundation.”

- The AHA will designate a spot in the National Reference Sire Program (NRSP) to test his progeny, including feed intake information.

- “Foundation” will be in the non-certificate AI program.

Ward encourages breeders to take advantage of this opportunity, not only to support HRF, but also because he is such a promising young sire. “He is red to the ground, fully pigmented and google-eyed, moderate framed and backed by a powerful dam that has a perfect udder,” he says. “In addition, the maternal grandmother is one of the great cows in the breed and full sisters and brothers to the dam are making a huge impact in the Hereford breed. “Foundation” has a very impressive full sister at Loewen Herefords that will be heard from in the future.”

The Hereford Research Foundation was established in 2009 as a division of the Hereford Youth Foundation of America, a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization, to support breed improvement projects outside the scope of the American Hereford Association (AHA) budget. HRF was developed to support programs that enhance beef cattle production. These projects will be conducted throughout the U.S. in conjunction with universities, private firms and ranches and shall be funded by donations.
