LeBeau Named CHB LLC Chief Operating Officer

Tom LeBeau has been selected as the new Certified Hereford Beef (CHB) LLC chief operating officer. A 28-year veteran in the meat industry, Tom brings a wealth of beef marketing and retail experience to the CHB LLC team. He will begin work April 1.

Tom has worked for many leading companies in the meat industry including Monfort/ConAgra Beef Co., and Swift and Co. After leaving Swift and Co., he served as vice president of value added sales for American Food Group. Recently he worked in a partnership brokerage business servicing SuperValu, one of the largest supermarket distributors in the country.

“We are extremely excited about having Tom join our CHB team,” says Craig Huffhines, American Hereford Association (AHA) executive vice president. “He brings a wealth of industry experience to our organization. He will help us continue to grow the Certified Hereford Beef® brand.”

Look for more on Tom and his plans for CHB LLC in upcoming Hereford World issues.

Hereford Demand is Evident as Cow Inventory Numbers Increase

Hereford bull demand in recent months seems to be reflected in a rise in cow inventory numbers as reported to the Association. As of March 20, cow herd enrollment through the Whole Herd Total Performance Records (TPR®) program is up 7,265 cows compared to a year ago. And more enrollments are being processed. A total of 68,754 cows have been enrolled.

Registrations remain steady to slightly higher compared to the same period last year.

CHB Is Now Available In More Locations

Certified Hereford Beef® demand is growing in Texas and the Southwest! One of CHB LLC’s newest, but fastest growing distributing partners, Affiliated Foods based in Amarillo, Texas, is introducing the brand to many cow-country locations. Affiliated Foods’ distribution areas consist of central and west Texas, New Mexico and Colorado and include strong independent stores that pride themselves in quality, fresh food offerings with hometown flare.

Just a few of the new stores rolling onto the program include John Brooks Supermarkets, based in Albuquerque, N.M., Peppers Supermarket, of Deming, N.M., LaGree Food Stores, based in Pueblo, Colo., Byers General Store, of Byers, Colo., and Rays Grocery of Breckinridge, Texas. CHB LLC staff continues to negotiate with additional stores within the Affiliated Foods Distribution group, and hopes to get them up and rolling soon. Just keep your eyes open; you never know when CHB might be offered in your community!

Hall of Fame, Merit Nominations Due May 1

Nominations for the Hereford Heritage Hall of Fame and Hereford Hall of Merit are due May 1.

The Hall of Fame honor recognizes Hereford breeders who’ve dynamically influenced the direction and advancement of the Hereford breed. Hall of Merit recipients aren’t necessarily Hereford breeders but have, in their own ways, greatly influenced the Hereford breed and the cattle industry.
