Hereford Staff at NCBA Convention This Week

The American Hereford Association is participating in the NCBA Cattlemen's Convention, Jan. 27-30 in San Antonio. The AHA tradeshow booth is located at No. 7073 on the San Antonio Convention Center trade show floor. AHA staff is available to discuss with cattlemen the value of Hereford genetics, Hereford heterosis projects and the new longevity and heifer pregnancy expected progeny differences (EPDs) that will be released this spring.

Southwestern Exposition Hereford Activities Start Jan. 30

A weekend of Hereford activities is scheduled during the Southwestern Exposition in Ft. Worth this weekend. The National Hereford Show will be broadcast live by Visit the EDJECast Web site for more information.

  • 4 p.m. Texas Hereford Assn. membership meeting and election of officers, Ft. Worth Community Arts Center (located on the west side of the west parking lot of the Will Rogers Complex between The Cowgirl Museum and The Amon Carter Museum)
  • 5-7 p.m. Social hosted by The Texas Hereford Assn., Ft. Worth Community Arts Center

  • 9 a.m. Pen of Three Hereford and Polled Hereford Bull Show, West Sale Arena, Justin Building
  • Noon Sale cattle on display (north end of Moncrief Barn)
  • 1 p.m. Commercial Hereford Heifer Sale, West Sale Arena, Justin Building
  • 3 p.m. Ft. Worth National “Cowtown Select” Sale, featuring polled and horned cattle, West Sale Arena, Justin Building
  • 5-7 p.m. Social hosted by The Texas Polled Hereford Assn. Cash bar and hors d’ouevres. Introduction of Jimmy and Claudia Atlas, 2010 Honorees. During the Social we will also auction off directory pages for the 2010-2011 annual TPHA Directory. To be held in The Cactus Room.
  • 7 p.m. Texas Polled Hereford Assn. general membership meeting in The Cactus Room.

  • 9 a.m. National Horned and Polled Hereford Show

Innovator Awards Presented at NWSS

Circle A Ranch and Tennessee Livestock Producers (TLP) were recognized as Hereford Innovators Jan. 14. Mark Akin, Circle A Ranch general manager, and Darrell Ailshie, TLP general manager, were presented the awards during a ceremony at the National Western in Denver. Extension Beef Cattle Webinars Coming Up

The eXtension Beef Cattle Clearinghouse Community of Practice will conduct hour-long webinars Feb. 11 and Feb. 25. The siminars will start at noon Central time. Topics to be discuss will be managing genetics on Feb. 11 and the power of heterosis on Feb. 25. Speakers will be Bob Weaber, University of Missouri, and Matt Spangler, University of Nebraska.

Hereford Youth, Past and Present, Sought After in the Workforce

Current National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) Vice Chairman Katlin Mulvaney was recently hired by the Georgia Cattlemen's Association as director of communications. Emilie Miller, past NJHA member, was recently hired as a development officer for the Kansas State University Foundation.
