The 2010 Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) will be July 4-10 in Indianapolis. Entry forms and rules are available online. Early entry deadline is April 23 and final deadline is May 20. Visit the JNHE Entry page for more information.

Scott Downing Benefit Auction Starts May 1

Hereford breeder Scott Downing was in a serious ranching accident working cows in Oregon March 29. He was hospitalized at Providence Hospital in Medford, Ore., with a traumatic head injury. Scott and his wife, Tracy, live in Butte Falls, Ore., and they have two boys, Lane and Brandt.

Katie Colyer, and friends of the Downing family are planning an online benefit auction to help offset unexpected family expenses the Downing family is facing during Scott's hospitalization and recovery. The auction will open May 1 and the closeout will start at 6 p.m. PST May 5. Reccomended Terms & Conditions Updated

During the recent American Hereford Association (AHA) Board meeting the Board approved a revised reccomended terms and conditions for public and private sales. Visit to view the updated terms.

Gebharts Featured on “Cattlemen to Cattlemen”

HYFA to Host Golf Tournament

The Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) will host its first golf tournament with all proceeds to benefit the Foundation. Hosted in conjunction with the JNHE, the event will kickoff at 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 6 at the Rock Ridge Golf Club in Crawfordsville, Ind.

The tournament will be a four-man scramble with shotgun start and awards will be given to first through third-place teams and a Chin-up Award. There will also be Longest Drive, Longest Putt and Closest to the Pin Contests with many other fun side games as well. There will be a meal after the tournament and many door prizes will be given away.

Player entry fees will be $200 a team or $50 for a single who will be placed on a random team.

Event coordinators are currently looking for event sponsors to help offset the costs of the prizes, meal and golf fees, as well as to benefit HYFA. Sponsors will have their names and/or logos on door prizes, flags, tee boxes, golf carts and scorecards depending on the level of sponsorship.

The 2010 Beef Improvement Federation’s (BIF) annual conference will be June 28-July 1 at the Holiday Inn Select Executive Conference Center in Columbia, Mo. With the theme, “Gateway to Profit,” international and U.S. industry experts will discuss leading-edge genetic advancements and offer practical solutions to adapt these technologies into any operation. 2010 Hereford Register Deadline is May 7

The Hereford Register is printed in the July Hereford World. It is used as a reference tool industry-wide across the U.S. and Canada and is distributed at many industry trade shows.

Hall of Fame, Merit Nominations Due May 1

Nominations for the Hereford Heritage Hall of Fame and Hereford Hall of Merit are due May 1.

The Hall of Fame honor recognizes Hereford breeders who’ve dynamically influenced the direction and advancement of the Hereford breed. Hall of Merit recipients aren’t necessarily Hereford breeders but have, in their own ways, greatly influenced the Hereford breed and the cattle industry.

Junior Associations Contact Info Needed

The AHA youth activities department needs current officer information for all state junior associations with complete addresses and telephone numbers. You may also want to include officer and advisor e-mail addresses if available. We are working on mailings for important summer activities and have received very few updated lists this year.
