Sandhill Farms Named BIF Seedstock Producer of the Year

Hereford operation Sandhill Farms, Haviland, Kan., was honored as the 2010 Beef Improvement Federation’s (BIF) Seedstock Producer of the Year.

Owned by the Schultz family, Sandhill Farms is a fifth generation operation located in south central Kansas consisting of both grain and livestock. The cattle operation has both registered and commercial Hereford cows. The Schultz family uses artificial insemination and embryo transfer technology and most of their sires have been tested through the American Hereford Association (AHA) National Reference Sire Program (NRSP).

Hereford Youth and Families Gear up for Indy

This weekend Hereford youth will be making their annual trek to the Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE). More than 650 exhibitors from 40 states plus Canada have entered 1,630 entries for this year's event that will be July 4-11 in Indianapolis.

Headquarters Hotel Offers Chance to Win a Free Room for the Week

All registered guests with the American Hereford Association room block at the Sheraton at Keystone at the Crossings will be entered into a drawing for a chance to receive their entire stay Complimentary during the event — one-room and tax fees.

The room block is not full at the headquarters hotel — Sheraton at Keystone at the Crossings. We have secured an $89 rate and it is the closest full-service hotel to the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The Crossings area has a variety of dining and shopping needs and is in a very safe and convenient part of Indianapolis.

Hereford Youth Loses Battle With Cancer

Hereford enthusiast Christopher Cummings, 18, of Union Mills, Ind., lost his battle with cancer June 29. Christopher had a cow-calf pair, steer and heifer entered and planned to participate in this year's JNHE. Christopher was featured in the February 2007 Hereford World . Please keep his family in your prayers.

St. Louis Cardinals Mascot Fredbird Visits Hereford Farm

As part of the Farmers Feed Us campaign, the Missouri Beef Industry Council organized a video shoot of Fredbird, the St. Louis Cardinals’ mascot, visiting Falling Timber Farm, Marthasville, Mo. Falling Timber Farm is owned by the Ridder family who gladly allowed the camera team to spend hours filming Hereford cattle and some of the kids’ bottle calves. The video will be shown on the big screen at Cardinals games this season.

First Hereford Research Foundation Fund-raiser Set for July 13

A online auction fund-raiser is scheduled for July 13. All proceeds will benefit the Hereford Research Foundation (HHRF).
