Stout Center Construction Set to Begin,
Funds Still Needed to Complete
Six years ago the Hereford and livestock industry lost Col. Stanley E. Stout. Following his sudden passing, friends and colleagues initiated a fundraising campaign to build a permanent sale facility at Stout’s beloved Kansas State University, where he cried the annual bull sale for decades, in his memory.
In addition to individual support throughout this initiative, a sale was held at the American Royal last fall and featured lots donated by breeders across the country, and from all corners of the cattle industry. This Exclusive Genetics Sale generated $82,100, with proceeds directly benefiting the Stout Center fund.
Recent support from friends and alumni has expanded the vision of this facility to a state-of-the-art building that will be used not only for livestock sales and exhibitions, but also as a multi-purpose educational space (for university and industry use alike) with virtual teaching capabilities. With an estimated price tag of $1.5 million, university fundraisers are working to secure the approximately $200,000 remaining by May 1.
Construction is scheduled to begin this summer at a site on the north side of the Kansas State University campus in Manhattan, with the facility set to be complete in time for the 2013 KSU Legacy Sale next March.
Anyone interested in more information or becoming a part of this facility project can contact Emilie Fink at 785-532-7571, or visit the KSU Foundation website.

This world-wide event is held every four years and will kick off with pre-tours in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Sunday, July 8. This is the 100th anniversary of the Stampede that will make this year's event even more spectacular. After a farewell barbecue dinner on Wednesday, July 18, a post-conference tour will continue going east and end in Niagara Falls on July 24.
There are many options that allow you to take in the entire 17 days or parts of the event. We will continue to give you more details on the various travel options through the next months.
