Seeking Board Candidates

The American Hereford Association (AHA) nominating committee’s responsibility is to identify six candidates to run for the three Board positions that are selected during the AHA Annual Membership Meeting.

GE-EPD Update

On April 9, 2013, AHA released new genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences (GE-EPDs) based on new correlations updated because of the addition of more than 2,000 animals with 50K genotypes. There have been some questions and concerns. Get all the latest information at

Herd Sire DNA Errors

In November 2010 the AHA Board implemented a policy requiring DNA on all future walking herd sires. Therefore, any sire born after Jan. 1, 2011, must have DNA on file at the AHA. If there isn’t, a DNA error will be returned when you process data. For more information download the "DNA Policy for Walking Herd Sires" fact sheet.

JNHE Early Entry Deadline May 1

  • Join the Club

    Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) supporters will have the best seats in the house at the 2013 JNHE in Kansas City.

    Hereford enthusiasts can join the Hereford Foundation Club and have access to the “club” that overlooks the showring in Kansas City as well as earn other perks for their support of Hereford youth.

    There are four levels of membership, but benefits include a special membership pin, access to the VIP parking area and admittance to the club area.

  • JNHE sponsorship, trade show opportunities available

  • HYFA to host golf tournament

    HYFA will host its fourth annual golf tournament with all proceeds to benefit the foundation. Hosted in conjunction with the JNHE, the event will kickoff at 8:30 a.m. July 17 at the Falcon Lakes Golf Club, Basehor, Kan.

    The tournament will be a four-man scramble with shotgun start. Hole sponsorships are available for $750 and include a team entry. Single hole sponsorships are $500. To register or for more information, visit, or contact Bailey Clanton or Amy Cowan.

Hall of Fame, Merit Nominations Due May 1

Nominations for the Hereford Heritage Hall of Fame and Hereford Hall of Merit are due May 1.

The Hall of Fame honor recognizes Hereford breeders who’ve dynamically influenced the direction and advancement of the Hereford breed. Hall of Merit recipients aren’t necessarily Hereford breeders but have, in their own ways, greatly influenced the Hereford breed and the cattle industry.

Get Prepared for New “Princess” Program at the JNHE

Young ladies, start planning now. This year in Kansas City at the Junior National Hereford Expo, the National Hereford Women and 2012-13 National Hereford Queen Whitney Andras will be hosting the Queen’s Tea. New this year, along with the fun activities, and socialization there is going to be random drawings for our young queen “wannabe’s.”

So young Hereford enthusiasts between the ages of 4 and 10, start planning your “Princess” outfit, now. Polish your boots, practice your smile and cross your fingers. It will be exciting… and worth looking forward to. Watch for more details to be released.

Hereford Prints Available

The National Hereford Women unveiled their third print in their exclusive Hereford Collection at the Ft. Worth Stock Show. The newest piece “Majestic” depicts polled & horned Hereford bulls bedded down in a winter mountain scene. This piece, like the others, was created by Amanda Raithel, renowned cattle artist.

Prints are available on “Setting Precedence,” “Secrets,” and now “Majestic.” They are $90 plus shipping. Pick your favorite, or start a collection.
