Consignment Deadline for March Sale is March 7

The March entry deadline is Friday, March 7. This is an excellent marketing opportunity! Consignments can include females, bulls, steers, pairs, donor dams, show prospects, embryos, semen, commercial female lots, recipient cows, groups of feeder calves, or picks of herd or flush rights. Additional consignments could include ranch or show equipment.

The March sale will run Saturday, March 22, through 8 p.m. EDT Tuesday, March 25.

BQA Certification offer for Beef Producers

Are you doing your part for the beef industry by earning your BQA certification? For a second year, your checkoff-funded Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) program is giving you the chance to become certified for free thanks to a partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. and the Beef Cattle Institute housed at Kansas State University. The cost of BQA certification is normally $25 to $50; however, from Feb. 3, through April 15, 2014, Boehringer Ingelheim will defray the cost of the certification or recertification, making it free. Log on to the BQA website for more information and to sign up.

CattleMax Offers Online Class

CattleMax is offering a free one-hour online class on using CattleMax Online to exchange information with AHA. Topics include updating TPR Inventory and registering calves. See a live demonstration of the AHA interface right from your computer and ask any questions along the way.

CattleMax customer service reps and AHA staff will be available to answer your questions. The class will be Wednesday, March 26 from 6 to 7 p.m. CDT. Register for the class.

The National Hereford Women (NHW) would like to thank Curtis Younts of Curtis Younts & Sons, Belton, Texas, for purchasing the artwork, Reflections, at the Cowtown auction in Fort Worth. The proceeds from this artwork go for Hereford youth programs sponsored by the NHW, including scholarships, contests at the Junior National Hereford Expo and the National Hereford Queen program. April 1 is the deadline to submit applications for scholarships and awards given during the Junior National Hereford Expo. Apply online at

Sullivan Supply/Stock Show University Scholarship Applications due March 15

Sullivan Supply and Stock Show U are offering 20 Scholarships worth $1,000 to youth involved in the livestock industry. Application deadline is March 15. Apply on Sullivan Supply’s website. Winners will be announced on April 15.

GE-EPD Results Update

If you want genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences (GE-EPDs) be sure to allow for plenty of time for the lab to get the results to you. Do not wait until the last minute. It takes a minimum of SIX weeks to get results after the lab acknowledges the sample, not when it arrives at GeneSeek.

Junior AI Program Discontinued

The Junior AI Program has been discontinued, but those offspring born from program semen will still be eligible to show at the 2014 and 2015 Junior National Hereford Expos.

AHA Announces Spring 2014 EPDs

AHA has released the updated EPDs for spring 2014. Producers can visit to look up the new EPDs and download updated Trends, Traits and Distributions reports.
