CHB LLC experiences record growth in 2012

Fiscal year 2012 was excellent for Certified Hereford Beef (CHB) LLC, despite a challenging economy. CHB LLC posted a record year in volume at 47 million lb. sold – a 17.5% increase, and 2 million lb. higher than the previous record of 45 million lb.

Beef Industry Resurgence: Hereford Registrations, Cow Herd Inventories, Sale Averages Increase During FY 2012

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Despite back-to-back years of drought and escalating costs in the beef industry, the Hereford breed is making a mighty resurgence. Hereford registrations were up more than 8% during the 2012 American Hereford Association (AHA) fiscal year that ended Aug. 31. Registered cow herd inventories are up 3% compared to the previous year — with more than 101,000 females reported this fiscal year.

Youth Enjoy Opportunity to Learn About Genomic Tools, Genetic Improvement at Conference

An educational conference for youth on genomic and genetic improvement tools was held June 23-26 in Nebraska. The conference was titled the Young Leaders Conference at the 2012 National Program for Genetic Improvement of Feed Efficiency in Beef Cattle and the Weight Trait Project, and it was designed for young beef industry leaders. Two representatives from the Hereford breed –Lauren Schiermiester, Buffalo, Wyo., and Bridget Beran, Claflin, Kan. – were invited to attend.

Graber Hired as Creative Services Coordinator

Lindsay Graber, originally from Haven, Kan. is the new Hereford Publications Inc. (HPI) creative services coordinator. Graber has a master’s degree in agricultural communications from Texas Tech University and a dual bachelor’s degree in agricultural communications and animal sciences and industry from Kansas State University.

more Auction To Raise Funds for Hereford Research

A variety of unique items and opportunities will be up for bid August 21 on with all proceeds benefiting the Hereford Research Foundation. For the last two years, has been hosting annual auctions filled with unique lots to benefit the foundation, and each auction has garnered more than $20,000 to help fund research.

Ash, Buck Top Showmanship Contest at Junior National Hereford Expo

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ­­­— Amanda Ash, Newton, Wis., was chosen champion senior showman July 5 at the Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) in Grand Island, Neb. Reserve champion was Bailey Buck, Madill, Okla.
After narrowing the field from 134 entries, the top 10 seniors not only had to prove themselves in the showring, but also at the fitting chute.

Hereford Youth will be “Livin’ the Hereford Life” at the 2012 Junior National Hereford Expo

 KANSAS CITY, Mo. ­­­— Hereford youth, their families and supporters, will travel to Grand Island, Neb., for the 13th annual Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) sponsored by VitaFerm®, a product line of BioZyme® Inc. The event will run from Monday, July 2 till Sunday, July 8.

Clanton Hereford Junior Activities Intern

Bailey Clanton, Bucyrus, Kan., has been selected as the 2012 American Hereford Association (AHA) junior activities intern. Clanton graduated from Kansas State University in May with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture economics and hopes to begin a career in the livestock show and management business after her internship, which will begin in May.

England Hired as Advertising Coordinator

Jessica England, Columbia, Mo., has been selected as the new Hereford Publications Inc. advertising coordinator. England graduated in May with a bachelor’s of science degree in agricultural journalism from the University of Missouri.

England has worked as an intern for both MayeCreate Design, Columbia, Mo., and Osborn & Barr, St. Louis, Mo., where she gained valuable experience in advertising by writing, editing and working with clients.

Johnson, Starr Join CHB Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Certified Hereford Beef (CHB) LLC is honored to announce the addition of two territory managers to the CHB LLC staff. Danielle Starr, Manawa, Wis., and Jill Johnson, Galva, Ill., will assume their new roles May 16 and 22, respectively.

Mick Welch, CHB LLC vice president of sales, says the addition of these two staff members will help to expand Certified Hereford Beef’s mission and reach.
