Youth Enjoy Opportunity to Learn About Genomic Tools, Genetic Improvement at Conference
An educational conference for youth on genomic and genetic improvement tools was held June 23-26 in Nebraska. The conference was titled the Young Leaders Conference at the 2012 National Program for Genetic Improvement of Feed Efficiency in Beef Cattle and the Weight Trait Project, and it was designed for young beef industry leaders. Two representatives from the Hereford breed –Lauren Schiermiester, Buffalo, Wyo., and Bridget Beran, Claflin, Kan. – were invited to attend.

Lindsay Graber, originally from Haven, Kan. is the new Hereford Publications Inc. (HPI) creative services coordinator. Graber has a master’s degree in agricultural communications from Texas Tech University and a dual bachelor’s degree in agricultural communications and animal sciences and industry from Kansas State University.

For the last two years, BuyHereford.com has been hosting annual auctions filled with unique lots to benefit the foundation, and each auction has garnered more than $20,000 to help fund research.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Hereford youth, their families and supporters, will travel to Grand Island, Neb., for the 13th annual Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) sponsored by VitaFerm®, a product line of BioZyme® Inc. The event will run from Monday, July 2 till Sunday, July 8.

Bailey Clanton, Bucyrus, Kan., has been selected as the 2012 American Hereford Association (AHA) junior activities intern. Clanton graduated from Kansas State University in May with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture economics and hopes to begin a career in the livestock show and management business after her internship, which will begin in May.

Johnson, Starr Join CHB Team
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Certified Hereford Beef (CHB) LLC is honored to announce the addition of two territory managers to the CHB LLC staff. Danielle Starr, Manawa, Wis., and Jill Johnson, Galva, Ill., will assume their new roles May 16 and 22, respectively.
Mick Welch, CHB LLC vice president of sales, says the addition of these two staff members will help to expand Certified Hereford Beef’s mission and reach.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Another $8,752 was raised for Hereford youth during the BuyHereford.com auction March 8. The 20 embryos donated for the 2012 Mile High Night National Hereford Sale in Denver as the surprise lot to benefit the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) were re-sold in six lots after originally purchased by David McMahon, Belle Point Ranch, Ft. Smith, Ark., for $20,000. The McMahon family graciously donated these 20 embryos back to HYFA.
