Herefords in Demand: Sales Increase in Numbers, Prices

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Hereford breeders continued to experience increased demand for Hereford genetics during the 2011 American Hereford Association (AHA) fiscal year that ended Aug. 31. The Association experienced a dramatic increase in production sale prices while reports of private-treaty sales were the highest in years.

Spragues Contribute $100,000 to Hereford Youth

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — George and Karen Sprague of Bar One Ranch, Eugene, Ore., gifted $100,000 to the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) during “The Harvest” fundraiser for youth Aug. 20 at Kunde Family Estate. The event hosted by the Jim and Marcia Mickelson family raised a total of $292,000 to support Hereford youth.

Bill Kuehn Presented Hereford Innovator Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ­­­—Bill Kuehn was honored with a Hereford Innovator Award by the American Hereford Association for his commitment to the Hereford industry and the Certified Hereford Beef (CHB) program. Bill, co-owner of WRK Herefords Inc., and Kuehn Feedlot, Heartwell, Neb., and Sweetwater Cattle Co., Kearney, Neb., was presented with the award at the National Western Stock Show Hereford Carload and Pen Show in Denver, Jan. 14.

Shock & Awe Named Supreme Hereford; Champions Selected at 2011 National Western Hereford Show

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ­­­– Hereford excitement abounded from the Yards to the Hill at the National Western Stock Show Jan. 12-15 in Denver. A total of 645 Herefords were exhibited throughout the three-day event. There were 339 head in the open show, 94 in the junior show, 31 pens of bulls, 13 heifer pens and eight carloads.

Star Lake, Colyer Take Top Honors in Hereford Yard Show

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ­­­— Star Lake Cattle Ranch, Skiatook, Okla., reigned victorious in the Hereford carload show capturing win number 12 and the coveted bronze trophy at the 2011 National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver Jan. 14. Colyer Herefords, Bruneau, Idaho, topped the pen of three bull show and Baumgarten Cattle Co., Belfield, N.D., won the pen of three female show in the Denver Yards.

Hereford Youth Awarded $26,250 in Scholarships

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ­­­— National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) members were awarded more than $26,000 in scholarships from the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) Oct. 30, during HYFA’s Boots and Brew II fundraiser in Kansas City.
