Keystone Hereford Champions Named

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- ­­ MSC Ramseys Sylvia Powerload and BF 7055 Stonewall 902 ET topped the Keystone International Livestock Exposition (KILE) National Hereford Show in Harrisburg, Pa., Oct. 1. Cody Lowderman, Macomb, Ill., judged the 171-head show and said he enjoyed judging the high-quality cattle presented.

Hereford Demand Continues to Grow: Association Experiences Increases in Registrations, Transfers and Membership While Breeders Enjoy Rise in Sale Prices

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Hereford breeders continued to experience an increased demand for Hereford genetics during the 2010 American Hereford Association (AHA) fiscal year that ended Aug. 31. The Association experienced an increase in registrations and membership as production sale prices increased for both bulls and females.

AHA Releases Heifer Calving Rate EPD

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The American Hereford Association (AHA) released its first heifer calving rate (HCR) expected progeny differences (EPDs) in late July. Using Whole Herd Total Performance Records (TPR™) data submitted by AHA members since 2001, these values show genetic differences in Hereford sires for the likelihood of their daughters to calve as heifers. Hereford Youth Go Out West for 2010 PRIDE Convention

 KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Leadership development, Hereford cattle and fun highlighted the 2010 Program for Reaching Individuals Determined to Excel (PRIDE) Convention Aug. 2-4 in Boise, Idaho. More than 110 individuals from 23 states participated in this event, hosted by the National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA).

AHA Announces Fall 2010 Gold TPR Breeders

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ­­­— Eleven dedicated Hereford breeders achieved Gold TPRTM (Total Performance Records) status for fall 2010, according to the American Hereford Association (AHA).
      The Gold TPR Breeder recognition is presented to progressive Hereford breeders who have measured traits and collected and promptly submitted performance data at all levels of production.

Hereford Juniors Compete in 22 National Contests

KANSAS CITY – More than 650 youth and their families gathered at the 11th annual 2010 VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo in Indianapolis July 4-10, to show and celebrate the Hereford breed. In addition to the cattle show, juniors and adults competed in 22 skill-based contests ranging from livestock judging to team fitting, and even a 3-on-3 basketball tournament.

BuyHereford.com Auction Raises $20,765 for Hereford Research

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The first BuyHereford.com online fund-raising auction for the Hereford Research Foundation fetched more than $20,000 to benefit Hereford research projects July 13. Nineteen items were sold and more than 200 total bids were placed throughout the auction.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ­­­— At the conclusion of the 2010 VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) it was announced that Roxane Gebhart, Claremore, Okla., was voted by her peers to win this year’s Herdsman of the Year title and coveted belt buckle.
