Gebhart Named Junior Hereford Herdsman of the Year
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — At the conclusion of the 2010 VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) it was announced that Roxane Gebhart, Claremore, Okla., was voted by her peers to win this year’s Herdsman of the Year title and coveted belt buckle.
Involved with the cattle industry and showing for 15 years, Roxane has been a member of the Junior Hereford Association of Oklahoma for the past 13 years and has been very active in the National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) serving on its board of directors.
A committee of national advisors chose five finalists for the Herdsman of the Year award and the winner was voted on by JNHE participants.
“Simply being nominated is an incredible honor; being named herdsman by vote of my fellow exhibitors is a dream come true,” Gebhart said about being selected.
“I’ve always felt that every day in the barn or pasture affects what happens in the show ring,” Gebhart added. “I’ve worked hard to make decisions from breeding to show day that were about good cattle, good presentation and good showmanship. You can’t fake any of those things or cut corners — when the work’s done right it shows. That’s a big part of this honor; there are always many exhibitors at JNHE just like me — their work has been done — their cattle, presentation and showmanship are great. I’m so proud to be in their company and humbled by their acknowledgment of my program.”
Gebhart’s fitting and exhibition skills were also recognized this year as she was named reserve champion senior showman.
The 2010 VitaFerm Junior National Hereford Expo was sponsored in part by Biozyme Inc., St. Joseph, Mo. The NJHA is one of the most active junior programs in the country with approximately 3,000 members.
